Ever since childhood, I've had a passion for understanding the inner workings of space travel and what lies beyond the clouds.

Noticing the craters for the first time
As a child, getting my first glance at the moon through new glasses was jaw-dropping. It was hard to believe how much detail the light in the night sky held. I can only measure a portion of what NASA's astronauts experienced on their approach.
As wonderful as it is to experience this historical moment, I can only ask myself how spending 773 000 Gallons of fuel in 8 minutes means in a world where resources are not a common commodity everywhere.
With burning forests and communities ravaged by fire, how is it that we're actively looking to establish roots outside of our own planet?

Working to better our home before reaching for the stars
Celebrating achievements that have outrageous costs is a bitter sweet thing when each and every human on the planet aren't all able to participate. I love the thought of exploring the moon, less so exploiting it, but again resolve issues on the ground before taking off into space in a rush to be the original pioneers of a celestial body.
I take pride in our collective work to kickstart projects and I look forward to seeing what the future holds. For me, a bright future is one of equal access to food, water, housing and education. I will rest easy when children don't go to school hungry or forgetting their lunches when there is no lunch to be forgotten.
When I look at the moon at night, I can wonder what future projects it'll inspire and I have the luxury of walking back into my home. When you struggle night and day, I know you don't look at the moon the same way.

When people on the street of every major city has no roof over their heads and social services lacking in their goal to house the homeless, over 50 Billion Dollars spent on a project like Artemis II, it stings. It leaves me with an unsettling feeling as my conciseness can't fathom the hungry stomachs who run on empty for too long by a side issue.
Not only are we neglecting the most vulnerable by choosing not to speak up and allowing our leaders to leave the unfortunate to stew in their misery, we are collectively ignoring the experiences of those who can not afford basic necessities.
It shouldn't be up to the individual to feel responsible, to have that unease as we walk past those we cannot house or feed. Not while our politicians dodge the subject. All we can do is push back. Ask our leaders the tough questions. Why are there too little programs and safe spaces, warming centres, social assistance programs and educational opportunities?
